Pollard

History

Pollard was the first established county seat of Escambia County, from its creation in 1868 until 1883, when it lost that distinction to Brewton. The community is named for Charles T. Pollard, the founder of the Alabama and Florida Railroad. This railroad constructed a line which connect Pollard with Montgomery and Pensacola. During the Civil War, the Confederate States Army constructed Camp Pollard just north of the town, which protected the railroad junction and served as a training camp.

Geography

Pollard is located in south-central Escambia County south and east of U.S. Routes 31 and 29, east of Flomaton, and southwest of Brewton. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land.
