Overview

Bellegarde-sur-Valserine est une ancienne commune française, située dans le département de l'Ain en région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes à la frontière avec le département de la Haute-Savoie. La ville, localisée au confluent du Rhône et de la Valserine, est peuplée de 11 450 habitants en 2018, ce qui la classe au sixième rang du département de l'Ain au regard de la population. Le 1er janvier 2019, elle devient commune déléguée et chef-lieu de Valserhône. Elle est notamment connue pour être la première ville française à avoir été éclairée à l’électricité.
