Pierreclos is a commune in the Saône-et-Loire department in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France.

History & geography

History

The name Pierreclos come from "Petra Clausa" meaning Closed stone, or tomb, in Latin. It was a necropolis for important people of the Roman Province. Before the French Revolution, the history of the village was closely linked to its castle.

Geography

Situated 14 kilometers west of Mâcon and 14 kilometers south of Cluny, Pierreclos is a small vineyard village in the Tramayes county.
