Gryon is first mentioned in 1189 as Griuns. In 1956, the gondola lift linking Gryon to les Chaux was realised, which was soon followed by a construction boom in the ski area. From the 1970s, a tourist complex was developed in the Alpe des Chaux. The bridge over Gryonne (originally constructed in 1901) which provided a direct link with Villars-sur-Ollon was reconstructed in 1980.
